studied economics and mathematics at the University of Mannheim. He was awarded a doctorate in economics in 1997, and he habilitated in 2001. Since 2005 he has been full professor at the Institute of Economics (ECON) at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). From 2008 to 2013 he was also professor at the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. His research focuses on the game and decision theory with particular reference to auctions and risk decisions. Further subjects of interest are the transfer and application of concepts and findings of economic theory and experimental economics to strategic issues in industry and politics.
